Direct Mail can do funny things to a youngish copywriter...

Maybe I’m sad and pathetic. But every day when Postie comes a-callin’ round the Daniel hut, he hears me bounding down the stairs like a 4 year old on Christmas morning.

That's not because I can't wait to tear open another gas bill. And not because I'm itching to chat to someone about the weather. No, it's because he always comes loaded up with direct mail.

And I'm a DM junkie. Really - I can't get enough of the stuff.

I've got piles of it here in my office. I study it, line by line. I obsess over good and bad examples, and keep a special file for the letters that keep on hitting my doormat...because clearly, they're working. 

If you're asking why, it's easy: I'm always on the lookout for those itsy-bitsy changes that can make a massive difference to response and ROI. I'm building an arsenal of nifty tools and smart conversion tactics - something every copywriter should be doing, in my humble opinion.

Now you could say I have a problem. And yes, you're probably right. I should get out more, take a walk now and then or buy a fishing rod.

But my clients like me just as I am - stuck indoors, with one eye fixed on creatives and the other on campaign stats. Because they know their DM campaign is in the hands of someone who'll agonise over every word and keep testing new ideas.
