Full-on content support: from traffic generation to training

CLIENT:
Keep Wales Tidy is a charity, with a mission of making Wales a better place to live. As well as targeting litter, they focus on vandalism, pollution and other things that spoil the environment. Their work includes projects with schools, community groups, local businesses and government.

CHALLENGE:
Their old website was looking dated, and messages needed to connect more with their target audiences. In particular, they needed:

  • Simple, intuitive navigation to guide visitors through the site
  • More engagement, by highlighting different ways to get involved
  • Easy, readable copy to introduce major campaigns and challenges
  • Training for staff, so they could create future content in-house

SOLUTION:
They brought in a team of local marketing bods, including yours truly, to give the site and content a total makeover. I started by rebuilding the site map from the user's point of view, while the designers made sure the full range of work was represented throughout the site.

I then wrote copy for all the top level pages and worked with a translator to make sure every message still rang true in Welsh.

Finally, I ran a training session with the whole team present, so future content could be written in a common tone of voice.

RESULT:
The new site went live in the spring of 2013, and staff at KWT are chuffed to bits with the end result:
